About MaryAnn

MaryAnn and her husband Trevor have two children: Elise, 9 years old, and Keaton, 5 years old.  MaryAnn and her family have lived in New Westminster for the past 9 years after having lived in Vancouver for six years.

MaryAnn attended high school in Mississauga, Ontario, graduating from Glenforest Secondary High School in 1991.  She has two years post-secondary studies at both the University of Toronto and the University of British Columbia.  Subsequently, MaryAnn completed continuing studies in Vancouver continuing education (1999) and business administration studies at BCIT in 2006. MaryAnn has worked in business administration for both corporate offices and community centres throughout Vancouver.

Currently, MaryAnn is the British Columbia Public School Employees Association BCPSEA Representative for the New Westminster Board of Education and trustee liaison for Lord Tweedsmuir Elementary and New Westminster Secondary Schools NWSS

Before being elected as trustee to the New Westminster Board of Education, MaryAnn's volunteering included two Parent Advisory Councils and the District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC) where she served on their executive from 2009-2011 and was elected Chair in 2011, Director on the New Westminster Montessori Society New Westminster Montessori Society.  MaryAnn is also one of the founding members of Summerfest at Grimston Park in New Westminster, a successful West End festival created in the summer of 2010.

In early 2009, MaryAnn also participated in the Capital Project Workshop process to identify a site for the new elementary school and was a member of the Neighbourhoods of Learning (NLC, NOL) initiative in 2010. The NOL is a Ministry of Education initiative that to provides services for the community within newly constructed schools and is funded by the Ministry of Ed.
 
In April of 2011, MaryAnn attended the British Columbia Confederation of Parent Advisory Council’s BCCPAC AGM where she brought forward a New Westminster DPAC resolution called the “Lunch routine”. The resolution asked the Ministries of Health and Education for best practice guidelines for the length of the lunch period for students in grades k-12. The resolution passed by a significant margin at BCCPAC’s AGM. As a committee member of BCCPAC's Provincial and Federal Policy committee, MaryAnn was able to work with BCCPAC Executives and parent volunteers from around B.C. in the development of the "Lunch routine" package sent to the Ministries of Education and Health. In working on the "Lunch routine" resolution, MaryAnn obtained the support of B.C.'s Former Chief Medical Health Officer, Dr. John Blatherwick.
